Suranga Lakmal’s journey from Ordinary to Extraordinary

November 23, 2017  at 8:09 pm   Praveen CA   Articles   0 Sri Lanka found lacking in a new Territory At   Eden   Gardens ,  Suranga   Lakmal   tormented   World's   batting   lineup   like   a   Boss   and   proved   that he   is   ready  to  become   Sri   Lanka's   bowling   spearhead . Suranga Lakmal is a 30-year-old from a rural village of Hambanthota, a city in the southern part of Sri Lanka. He is 6 foot 2'' which is ''tall'' for  Sri  Lankan fast bowler. And like most other fast bowlers from the island, he is thin and injury prone. If you had never seen him before, ''T-Bag'' from the famous TV series ''Prison Break'', except for height, would have described him the best. Lakmal, like all the Sri Lankan fast bowling greats, is a laidback and quiet character with or without the cherry in his hand. Also, like all of them in his breed, Lakmal likes to let the ball do the talking. That is what he d

Finding the Fault - Sri Lanka Cricket

''Better late than never'' Sri Lanka Cricket is in a slump. This is a huge understatement.  It is only 35 years since Sri Lanka gained Test status. Sri Lanka went on to win a world cup 14 years later. Since then they have qualified for 5 Global Tournament Finals and won one of them in 2014, that was only 3 years ago. Sadly, it has been a downfall since then. Sri Lanka have been beaten over and over again, with just a few consolation wins thanks to some outstanding individual performances. It is fair if you say retirements of Sangakkara, Mahela and Dilshan or consistent injuries to Malinga did not help the cause. Yet it is the way cricket goes. Players come and go, cricket will keep going. It is not something you should be surprised of; it is something you should be ready for when the time comes.  However, Sangakkara and Mahela stayed until 2015 WC. Sangakkara played one Test series even after the World Cup. Dilshan played for a bit longer after Sangakkara

Ranathunga vs Sangakkara : Wolf vs Lion

Both are Sri Lankans. Both represented their country and captained the country in their respective times. Both were not out batting at the crease when Sri Lanka lifted their ICC trophies in 1996 and 2014. Also both were left handed batsman whom icon-ed that roaring SL Lion to a perfection. Gritty, Cunning and Confident, Both were. What on the earth could go wrong between these two? Ranathunga was the first Sarong Jonny (He was called as that at SSC in his early days by a senior, because he was not from an Elite English school those days) to broke into SL team in early 80’s. He mentioned to have had lot of troubles those days with the culture existed. The strong character he still is, He went on to play Sri Lanka’s first test match scoring debut Sri Lankan half century in the first innings. Ranathunga didn’t stop there either. 14 year later, Sri Lanka went on to crown the world cup in 1996 under his Ultra self-confident leadership. Also after more than 15 years of retirement, Ran

Math and the Aftermath of Mr.Ford

"We are sorry, Mr Ford!" These must be the words that any heart-broken Sri Lankan fan has to say to the great man, leaving coach of Sri Lanka, Mr.Ford. This is the second time Ford leaving the position of Sri Lankan coach behind. When he left the country in 2014 having finished a successful two year stint, within the couple of months followed, Sri Lanka crowned as the World T20 champions under his assistant and current English Assistant coach Paul Farbrace. Within 3 months of his departure, Sri Lanka went on to win a full tour of England for the first time in history, winning all three formats under coach Marvan Attapattu. It's not that Ford had not had issues with SLC at the time, but he didn't renew his contract sighting family issues. Yet Ford left far more happier after finishing his full stint, having unlocked Sanga V2.0(copyrights Andrew Fernando), Having transferred Dilshan into a consistent 100 maker and leaving behind a team that could beat any top nat
